Join The Book Institute on Sunday, November 1 at 1pm in Burbank for GYOTAKU ART — a Japanese fish printing workshop where history, craft, and creativity come together.
Guided by artist and educator Paula Whiteman, you will learn traditional Gyotaku techniques and create your own prints using provided fish replicas and materials.
Sip, paint, and explore this beautiful printmaking tradition with a small group of fellow makers in a relaxed, hands on setting. We would love to create with you.

It’s Time to Clean Your Books

Avoid pulling books out by tugging the top of the spine, which can stress the binding and dust cover over time, said McCarthy and David Weinstein, a bookbinder based in Los Angeles. Instead, it’s gentler if you slightly push in the books on either side of the book you want to grab, such as with your ring finger and index finger. Doing so allows you to grasp your desired book on either side of its spine.
